Smolart is a self-help group in western Kenya’s Kisii region, known for its unique soapstone. The organization supports 200 member carvers—each a stakeholder—who work with home-based artisans, creating jobs for about 1,000 people. Smolart promotes fair trade, community development, and sustainable resource use while helping artisans earn a fair income close to home.
